John Vincent Ross

John Vincent Ross, 55, of Tallahassee, Florida passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2025. John was a wonderful man that touched more lives than he probably realized, both through his work and through his personal life. He was goofy, sarcastic, and got a big kick out of telling his terrible “Dad Jokes” every opportunity he could! John proudly served his country in the United States Army as an aviation mechanic, where he worked on Black Hawk helicopters. During his service, he supported Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War and was deployed to Korea. His time in the Army was a source of great pride, and he deeply valued the opportunity to serve his country and work alongside his fellow soldiers. John spent his career working in the field of Information Technology. He enjoyed his career so much that he convinced his son to join the field as well. At the time of his passing, John was an Information Technology Project Manager for the State of Florida, Department of Management Services. In his spare time, John enjoyed spending time with his family and extended family. His love for music and playing the guitar gave him the opportunity to entertain at various venues in the area. Always a solo act, singing and playing the guitar gave him great joy. He was only four years old when he first jumped on stage to sing a Johnny Cash song at a festival his family was attending. He started playing the guitar around age 7. But he didn’t just like playing the guitar, he liked teaching others to play as well. Anyone in the family that showed an interest, was sure to be taught their skills by one of the best. He was very patient and kind in devoting his time to his passion and encouraging others to do the same. Not only his son, but other family members and friends were blessed to have had the opportunity to learn from John. Although he could be a procrastinator at times, once John started a project, he was laser-focused until the job was complete. A man you could count on if you needed him. At work or at home. John is survived by his loving wife, Donna Ross; his son, Alex Taylor Ross (Hannah); granddaughter, Bella Rose Ross; mother, Kathy Morrow; sisters, Kimberly Burr (Raymond), Robin Ross, Michelle Hanson (Victor), Joy Tuten, and Pamela Hoffman; a host of nieces and nephews, and other family and friends, that already miss him so very much. John is preceded in death by his father, John W. Ross. A Full Military Honors Service will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 2:00 PM, at the Tallahassee National Cemetery.
