James Floyd Kio

James Floyd Kio, Jimmy or Jim as he was known, 68, of Tallahassee, died August 22nd at home, after a short unfortunate illness, with family by his side and close in his heart. Born November 27th, 1953, to Ila Mae Hardie and Jack Melvin Kio, in Whiteville NC, he proudly grew up as a military brat to two Army men, his dad, and step-dad Leroy Neitz. A true outdoorsman, he was at home in the water diving for lobster, fishing from a boat, sitting in a tree stand, riding through the woods to pick flowers, or tending plants in the garden. He ran Quality Craft Works for 26 years, with his wife, installing tile, stone, and glass blocks all over North Florida and South Georgia. He was a talented craftsman, carpenter, mechanic, fixer-upper, builder of dreams, willing problem solver, and tile setter extraordinaire. He took pride in providing quality work which kept him in much demand. He was known for his playfulness and sense of humor, appreciated for his helpfulness and goodwill toward others. He was a true friend, smooth dance partner, and romantic to the core. He was preceded in death by all three parents, his two brothers Butch Kio and Jeff Kio, and niece Vicky Fairbanks. Left to mourn his loss and treasure his memory are his beloved family: his wife, Carol Kio-Green; his son, Luke (Zan) Kio; his daughter, Caitlyn (Daniel) Clibbon; his stepson, J Ryan Green Sr; three precious grandchildren, Justin Green, Cassidy Riordan, and Olivia Clibbon; his sweet sister, Jackie Fairbanks; sisters-in-laws, Bonnie Kio and Cathy (Tom) Ryon; and brother-in-laws, Ben Green and Mark (Mary) Green. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews, special customers, water buddies, extraordinary friends, and Big Boy, the feline who shared his recliner. As one nephew said when hearing of his illness, “Oh no -the world needs Jim Kio." Some of Jim’s ashes will be scattered by his family and friends into the Gulf of Mexico, where they will gather to celebrate his life in November.
