David Wayne Miller

It is with heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved David Wayne Miller, on March 2, 2023. David is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Janice Brown Miller; his son Brian David Miller and wife Kelly Langston Miller; granddaughter Elliot Rose Miller; brother-in-law Rowland Brown and wife Susan McKenzie Brown; and nephew Nicholas Brown. David was the only child of Ralph and Irene Miller from Thomasville, Georgia. His father was in the Air Force, and they lived in several states and in Europe. When his father retired, they settled in Tallahassee where he graduated from Leon High School. Following graduation, David enlisted in the Army. He was trained to intercept classified communications during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Japan for most of his service. While it was important to David to serve his country, he decided to go to college and pursue another career. He became a police officer in Thomasville and attended Florida State University. Janice was teaching at Central High School when they met. Shortly after their wedding, they moved to Tallahassee where he completed his college degree. David was a property appraiser with the State of Florida for 35 years. David enjoyed spending time with family; gardening, especially growing flowers; working in the yard; and carpentry, building, and repairing almost anything. David relaxed by watching football and other sports, working crossword puzzles, and spending time on the Ochlockonee River in Wakulla County. The absolute highlight of David's life was the birth of their son, Brian. Another extremely important occasion for him was Brian’s marriage to Kelly. David loved Kelly, and he was overjoyed when his beautiful granddaughter, Elliot, was born. He enjoyed everything about Elliot because family was his life. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. The most recent joyful and rewarding occasion for him was the investiture of Brian as Wakulla County Judge, where David and Janice proudly placed the judge's robe on Brian. David fought a tough, brave, and stoic battle with cancer for 17 years. While never complaining, he tried cutting-edge treatments and endured rounds of chemotherapy. He had great medical care and powerful prayer warriors. Funeral services will be held at the Tallahassee National Cemetery at 5015 Apalachee Pkwy., Tallahassee, Florida, on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in honor of David, to the Deer Lake Church, 8013 Deerlake South, Tallahassee, Florida 32312, or online at https://www.deerlakeumc.org/offerings/other.
