Carole Avery

Carole Jean Avery, 75, Marianna, FL, became our special Guardian Angel on April 6, 2025, in Tallahassee, FL following a long battle with ovarian cancer. Ms. Avery was born in Live Oak, FL. She grew up there, in McAlphin, and Tallahassee, FL. She spent the last almost 50 years of her life in Marianna, FL, where she has many family members and friends. Ms. Avery spent her early career as an office manager/secretary. She spent the final years of her career working at Oglesby Plant International as a supervisor in a plant development lab. Ms. Avery loved her family and friends with all her heart. She always bragged about the accomplishments of each of her children and grandchildren. Her favorite places to be were the pond, the river lot, and anywhere her family and friends were enjoying time together. Ms. Avery’s hobbies were painting/art, fishing, working in the yard with her flowers, bird watching, cooking, and reading. We all have a FSU, Alabama, Christmas ornament, Santa Claus, or snowman gourd that she painted. She was always a master fisher. On one family fishing trip there were not enough poles to go around so she picked up a stick, put on some line and a hook and ended up catching a bass, the biggest catch of the day. She also caught a catfish half as big as her one time at the pond. She fought with it and got it near shore when Harold helped net it just before it pulled her into the pond for a swim. She loved her bird feeders in the yard so she could watch the cardinals especially, along with the other birds. “Green Thumb” she definitely was. She had plants everywhere and was always working on them or a garden when she could. She liked ending the day with a good book or a game on her Kindell before going to snuggle in for the night. Of course we can’t forget her fur babies, the kitties that she loved and spoiled. Ms. Avery was proceeded in death by her father; Austin Avery, Live Oak, FL, mother; Tosalea Croft-Avery Humphries, Carabelle, FL, and daughter-in-law; Jill Holland Alderman, GA. Ms. Avery is survived by the love of her life Harold Melvin, Marianna, FL, a brother; Bill Avery (Ann), Apalachicola, FL, 5 children; Joe Alderman, Gainesville, GA, Carmen Alderman Edge, Tallahassee, FL, Sandra Alderman, New Orleans, LA, Clint Alderman (Elisabeth), Demorest, GA, and Jessica Garrido, Baldwin, GA. She is also survived by 3 bonus daughters: Donna Love (Scott), Dothan, AL, Pam Deese-Mason (Dewayne), Dothan, AL, and Shiela Godwin (Cary), Marianna, FL. “Memaw” is also survived by 20 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Ms. Avery was also survived by many nieces and nephews along with special friends Lyn Manning, Penny Crandall, and Charlotte Crombie. We will have a Celebration of her Life at one of her favorite places on Sunday, April 27th at 2pm at 4751 Juice Lane, Marianna, FL 32448 (The River Lot). The family will have a private service prior to this celebration. Please bring a chair as seating is limited and a small side for us to enjoy as we share special stories about her life, laugh, and just be together and love on each other.
