Alban Collins

Alban Leverne Collins (Albert), affectionately known as BIG AL was born on January 21, 1965, in Tallahassee Florida. He was lovingly raised on Efferson Street and Gibbs Drive where he grew up and formed a bond with lifelong friends as part of the “The Quad”. As an only child, he was preceded in death by his birth mother Dorothy Mae Collins, and his adopted parents; father, Roosevelt Collins, and mother Eria Mae Collins. Al attended Ruediger Elementary, Griffin Middle and graduated from Leon High in 1983 as an all-star athlete. He continued his education at Ft Lauderdale College. As a teenager, Al had an encounter with God and committed his life to Christ. Alban proudly served eight years in the United States Marine Corps rising in rank to Corporal in the Marine Corp Reserve. He served and provided “Superior Performance with Honor” to Company C, 8th Tank Battalion, 4th Marine Division as an Administrative Clerk and was honorably discharged on September 22, 2002. He was dubbed “The Grand Old Man” when his platoon mates discovered he enlisted at the age of 29. He graduated from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina in August of 1995. On January 26, 1996, Al married his best friend and love of his life, Terri Sherine Dunn and to that union two beautiful daughters were born: Njaree Monet and Nadia Denea. His “Sweethearts” as he calls them are his pride and joy. As a civilian, Al was employed with Consultec Inc., FBMC Benefits Management Company, the State of Florida Dept. of Financial Services, Lowe’s, and the Shoe Dept. Encore. He enjoyed his work families and shared fond memories with many. Alban served his community with a heavy dose of smiles and effortless humor. He was always positive and rarely complained. He shared Life Lessons with those who asked and found himself often a mentor and friend to many. On Thursday, October 26, 2023, at 1:05 pm, Alban transitioned to be with the Lord. He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Njaree Collins and Nadia Collins (Tallahassee, FL) his Partner in Life Terri Collins (Tallahassee, FL), a loving and supportive Mother-in-love, Annie Dunn (Brooklyn, NY), Godmother Addie Carroll-Beal (Tallahassee, FL) God family The Tajdari’s, and beloved Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, other Family and Friends for Life. Mr. Collins was cared for by Jackie Fulford and James Sircy of Young Fulford Funeral Home and Crematory, Tallahassee, Florida. 850.610.4444
