Karen Lee Szanto
February 20, 1949 - May 18, 2022
Karen Lee Szanto (nee Wellman), a resident of Quincy, Florida, was born to Annabelle Lee and Nolin Lee Wellman on February 20, 1949 at March Air Force Base in Riverside, California. She went to the Lord on May 18, 2022 in Tallahassee, Florida. Karen was predeceased by her parents and her sister Linda. She is survived by her sons David Rowell of Quincy, Fl, and Steve Szanto (wife Diane) of Albuquerque, NM; younger brother Danny (wife Cuqui) of Fullerton, CA; grandchildren Sarah and Ben Rowell; nieces Carly and Eden; and numerous cousins. Karen was a beautiful, kind, generous, and nurturing spirit. An example of this was when she was about 9 years old her parents bought her an old beat up 20-inch bicycle. After she taught her younger siblings how to ride it she then taught many neighborhood kids who clamored to learn from her. She had the patience of Job teaching them all. Growing up she worked many jobs as a waitress, cook, candy vendor representative and finally as a career employee of the telephone company (Southwestern Bell and later AT&T) retiring after some 30 years of employment while holding numerous positions. Karen was always a lover of nature and some of her happiest moments were when she was gardening, collecting gems and minerals, and being surrounded by her loving dogs and other animals. She had a smile for everyone she met. The goodness in her was always present throughout her life no matter the hardships she faced. Her legacy she leaves to her friends and family is her kindness and generosity. The family is being assisted by James Sircy and Jackie Fulford of Young Fulford Funeral Home and Crematory, Tallahassee, Florida. 850.610.4444 YoungFulford.com
