Mary Ellen Plewes

Mary Ellen Plewes 01/17/80 – 03/22/24 Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Niece, Mentor, Teacher, and Loving friend. Born in Colorado, raised as an Army Bratt she lived in Georgia, Colorado, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina before settling in Florida. Mary was very driven even at an early age. She was chosen to be a part of a special organization called “Odessey of the mind” for talented and gifted individuals at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Mary graduated high school with honors. She was granted a “Teaching Fellows” scholarship and completed her associate degree from Elon University in North Carolina. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina Pembroke. She then taught grade school students in Fayetteville, N.C. to repay her scholarship. From there she and her two young daughters moved to Greenville N.C. where Mary earned her Masters degree in Art Education from East Carolina University while also being the caretaker of her three young nephews. Mary then taught high school in Fayetteville N.C. before moving to Tallahassee to pursue her Doctorates, she started teaching at Lincoln Highschool, where love of the students derailed her pursuit. Although teaching was her dream, her passion was traveling. From London to Greece, she loved nothing more than traveling with family and finding new adventure’s she spent most summers driving across the country to mountains and beaches. Mary is survived by her two Daughters, Annabelle and Abigayle Vannoy of Tallahassee. Parents, Gary and Gloria Plewes of North Carolina. Sisters, Kandra Utterback and Tara [Hunter] Osborne of North Carolina. Nephews and Niece, Gary, Nate, Elijah, and Junia of North Carolina.
