Larry Gene Davis

Larry Gene Davis was born on February 20, 1954, in Alexandria Bay, New York, to Claude and Mary Davis. He was raised by Arthur and Rene Clark in Ellisburg and graduated in 1973 from Union Academy, where he was known as “Leaper” for his skills on the basketball court. He was a member of the Ellisburg Volunteer Fire Department for over thirty years until he moved to Tallahassee, Florida. Upon moving to Tallahassee, he joined the Lake Jackson Volunteer Fire Department, where he served in many roles, including that of President. In 2020, he retired from Tallahassee Memorial Hospital, where he worked in the plant engineering department for 25 years. Larry received many awards while employed with the Hospital, including being named employee of the year in 2009. Larry loved the many friends he made while working at the hospital and was given the nickname Catfish. Everyone knew that if they needed a tire changed or any assistance, Catfish was the guy to call, and he would always be there to help. Larry is survived by his wife, Betty Davis; his three children, Ken (Jen), Bradford (Megan), and Jennifer (Kevin); and his four grandchildren, Arthur, Saya, Lacey Leah, and Everly. He is also leaving behind sisters Linda, Elizabeth, and Tina, and brothers Butch and Gary. Larry was a generous and caring man who was loved by all who knew him. A lifelong member of the United Methodist faith, he most currently attended Lake Jackson United Methodist Church. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time in the couple’s home by the bay in Apalachicola, Florida, where he attended Fellowship Baptist Church. The couple could regularly be seen cruising the streets of Apalachicola in their golf cart with their Dalmatian, Sissy, riding in the back. Larry enjoyed country music, classic television shows, and collecting fire department memorabilia. He loved spending time with his grandkids, and fixing things, sometimes even if they weren’t broken. He loved his wife, Betty, more than words could ever describe. Also, and most importantly Larry loved the Lord, and we all find comfort in the fact that though he has left us, he is home, peaceful, in Heaven and one day we will all be together again.
