Jessie Lee Norton

Jessie Lee Norton, who fearlessly “lived a life worth living”, took her final adventure on July 12, 2024. Jessie was a steadfast beacon of light for her family and will be deeply missed by everyone lucky enough to know her. Jessie was raised in Altha, Florida as the second youngest of 23 children where she blossomed into a kindhearted wonder woman with a never-quit, bad ass wildfire spirit. She worked way too hard, for way too long, for way too little. These sacrifices taught her children that they too could achieve anything in life through hard work. Her love for the two men in her life was only exceeded by her love of Elvis. Jessie had three children who brought purpose to her life: Cyndi, Ronda, and Harlan with her first husband Danny Harlow. Her second husband, Dave Norton, brought immense joy with a second son, David Jr. The story of her and Elvis she kept for herself. Jessie was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories and way too many roosters. Jessie was a beloved mother and grandmother who valued a clean house and her family. No family gathering was ever too large nor lacking in excitement. She excelled at being the “do it all” G-Ma/Nanny forever leading her charges around the next bend or over the next hill in search of adventure. She instilled this passion for life into all four of her children who continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. The last years of Jessie’s life were a challenge as the cruel grasp of aphasia took hold. She slowly lost the memories of a beautiful life but continued to cherish the embrace of family and found comfort whenever surrounded by conversation and laughter. She never stopped being Jessie as seen by the occasional delivery of a powerfully stern look quickly followed by a radiant smile. She is survived by her husband Dave, all four children, eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She also has many loving brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, and many friends who will miss her light and antics. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday September 14th at the American Legion located at 229 Lake Ella Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32303. The social will be held between 12:00 - 3:00 with lunch finger foods being provided.
