Brian Micheal Duncan After a yearlong battle with metastatic adrenal cancer, Brian passed away peacefully at the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House in the early morning hours of May 6, 2026. He was 44 years of age. Brian is survived by his wife, Alisha and their son, Dylan, parents Joe and Tracy Duncan, brother Joe Duncan (wife Beth, nephews Joey and Anthony, and niece Emily), father and mother-in-law, Garry and Carol Spahr, sister-in-law Heather Spahr, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins on his side as well as his wife’s side of the family. Also left to mourn his passing are close friends, current and former coworkers, and current employees who are like family throughout the Publix Supermarkets Corporation. Brian was born on September 21 in Medina, Ohio. He was a 1999 graduate of Cairo High School. Brian began his career with Publix Supermarkets in 1999. In 2004, while working in the deli and bakery of store 533 on Thomasville Road in Tallahassee, Brian and Alisha met as coworkers and quickly became inseparable. Brian and Alisha were married in February 2006 and recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. Brian continued his career with Publix working at several local stores before transferring to Panama City Beach to become an assistant store manager. In 2010, Brian became the store manager of the first Publix in Dothan, Alabama. At the age of 29, he was one of the youngest store managers in Publix history. Brian would go on to win the prestigious George Jenkins Award in 2014. An award given to store managers who demonstrate superior leadership, perpetuate Publix company culture, and exemplify Publix founder, George Jenkins’s ideals. Desiring to move closer to family, Brian accepted the store manager position at store 1051 on Blairstone Road and Park Avenue in Tallahassee in 2014. At the time of his passing, he was the store manager of store 1427 on Centerville Road and Capital Circle NE in Tallahassee, Florida. Brian modeled extraordinary leadership to hundreds of coworkers and employees throughout his career with Publix. All who knew Brian knew he “bled (Publix) green”. Brian was exceptionally gifted in many areas but he had a real servant’s heart for being the hands and feet of Jesus by loving and serving his family, his community, and employees. Brian always made sure his employees and coworkers felt appreciated and valued. One of Brian’s main goals in life was to make sure his family was taken care of and he did so exceptionally well. Outside of the Lord and Publix, Brian loved FSU Football (Go Noles!), fishing, playing video games (especially with Dylan), watching tv series and shows with Alisha, home improvement projects, keeping his grass nice and green, scratch off lottery tickets, and family cruises. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, at City Church, 3215 Sessions Road, Tallahassee, Florida 32303. A visitation will be at 10:00 am and the service will begin at 11:00 am. All are invited to attend and are encouraged to wear green in honor of Brian’s decorated career with Publix. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian’s name may be made to March of Dimes or donations can be made directly to the family to offset past medical bills and future expenses.
