Antonia Stewart

On April 30, 2023, Antonia (Toni) Stewart passed away peacefully at the age of 88 after a long battle with dementia. She was born June 13, 1934, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to Pilar Atanacio: Generosa Coreano Atanacio. Toni was named after Anthony of Padua, one of the most popular Saints in the Catholic Church. She was united in holy matrimony to Raymond David Stewart May 19, 1951. Toni was a military wife. She gained the strength, courage, and resilience to deal with deployment separations while raising four girls. Once she and the girls visited her husband in Germany and the family spent time touring many of the European countries. Their fifth child, Raymond was born in Germany December 13, 1961. The family also lived on the island of Oahu, HI when Raymond was stationed at Hickam Air Force Base. Toni was an accomplished seamstress, loved planting flowers in the many gardens she created, and enjoyed reading. Her generous spirit and pleasant personality were loved by many and will be remembered by all those she touched. Her beautiful life will forever be cherished in the lives of her brothers Joseph Atanacio and Raymond Atanacio, her sister-in-law Irene Atanacio and their children. Toni is survived by her daughters Elaine Francis, Catherine DeAngelis, Diane Stewart and Carolynn DiMarco, her grandchildren Joanne Kovac-Roberts, Stephanie Elaine James, Maureen Catherine Thornton, Anthony Joseph DiMarco, Brooke Marie DiMarco, Alexandra Mary DiMarco, and her six great-grandchildren Parker Roberts, Sydney Roberts, Hunter James, Cody James, Brandon Grant and Jaxson Bull. Toni was predeceased by her husband Raymond of 50 years. Her husband’s ashes will be placed with her, and he will receive Honor Services from the United States Air Force at the burial. Also predeceased was her sister Amelia Atanacio Coreano, her son Raymond Stewart Jr. and 4 grandchildren Shannon Marie Gilbane, Thomas Patrick Gilbane, Gabriel Adam Lynch and Holli Lauren Prather-Bull. As Mother Teresa said, “Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.” —That was Toni Stewart, a woman who spent her life living for and loving her family. A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 1:00 PM. Following the Mass, a burial will take place at MeadowWood Memorial Park with a reception to follow.
