Marvin "Lennie" Ellis Jr.

Marvin Leonard “Lennie” Ellis, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on September 19, 2023, at his home in Tallahassee, Florida at the age of 67. Lennie was born in Biloxi, Mississippi and grew up in Wiggins, Mississippi. After graduating from Harrison Central High School in Gulfport, Mississippi, he moved to Miami, Florida and trained to be a Cardiology Medical Technician at Miami-Dade Community College. He moved to Fort Myers, before settling down in Punta Gorda, Florida in 1980. There he worked at the Charlotte Regional Medical Center Cardiac Cath Lab and later served as the CEO of Cardiology Associates. In 2012, Lennie relocated to Tallahassee, Florida for a job opportunity as the Medical Facility Administrator with Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Physicians Partners, associated with Southern Medical Group. His professional success is evident by the vast growth and numerous accolades bestowed upon the medical practice during his tenure. Lennie was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved all things outdoors, whether it be boating, fishing, hunting, camping, buggy riding, camp cooking or bonfires. His favorite pastimes involve construction, going to the racetracks, cheerfully decorating for a holiday, setting off fireworks and drinking beer around the bed of a pickup truck with his buddies. One word that best describes Lennie is BIG - big guy, big heart, big hands, big brain, big teddy bear, big hugs, big smile. He lived big, spoke big, laughed big and loved big. As a result of his passing, there is a big hole in the hearts and lives of those who knew and loved him. He was a great father, an even better grandfather, an ever-present, loyal friend always ready to lend a hand and an enthusiastic, spirited boss who decorated and dressed up for the holidays by wearing ugly Christmas sweaters or a pink feather boa for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Lennie is survived by his daughters Amanda Kae (Marshall) Parr and Carol Marie (Kevin) Hurd, grandchildren Natalie, Rylie, Charlee, TJ, Camden and Kinsey, his mother Marie Meier, sister Kathi Meier (Jack) Toft-Neilsen, brothers Darrell (Emily) Meier, Jr. and Neils Meier, numerous nieces and countless close friends who become family throughout the years. He is preceded in death by his stepfather Darrell Meier, Sr., brother Stephen Meier and father, Marvin Leonard Ellis, Sr. Lennie also leaves behind his beloved dogs, Dixie and Boss. A Celebration of Life is arranged for Sunday, November 5, 2023, at The Retreat at Bradley’s Pond, 9002 Bradley Road in Tallahassee, Florida from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to The Tallahassee Museum.
