Irma Geraldine Dyas

IRMA GERALDINE DYAS born September 24, 1924 in Nappan/W.Amherst, NS as Irma Geraldine Coates, passed into eternity on January 14, 2021 in Tallahassee, FL. She was previously residing at St. James Nursing Home in Carrabelle, FL. Irma is survived by 2 sisters: Madeleine Comeau of Amherst, NS and Carol Morrissey of St. John, NB; her 4 children: Kathryne DeStefano of King of Prussia, PA, Sharon Hutchinson of Tasmania, AU, Alexander Dyas of Carrabelle, FL, and Jean Edwards of Dublin, GA; 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She had been widowed for 12 years since her husband Fred Dyas died. Irma has resided in Carrabelle, FL since 2015 when she moved from Marietta, GA her home of 45 years—1971-2015. She lived in King of Prussia, PA with her young family from 1963-1971, in Guelph, ON from 1957-1963. As a newly married couple Fred and Irma lived in Hespeler/Toronto, ON from 1951-1957. Irma was the 2nd born child to her parents, Haley and Ethel Coates along with 6 other siblings: Hala, Irma, Ronnie, Madeleine, Carol, Ernest, and Sharon. After graduating high school Irma taught in a one room school in Amherst then joined the war effort with the RCAF from 1943-1945 being stationed in Gander, NL and Montreal, QC where she taught wireless codes and coding. After the war she attended Amherst Nursing School and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She was working for the Red Cross in Parrsboro, NS when she met and married Fred. She worked as a labor and delivery nurse in PA and was a head nurse in a nursing home in GA. She practiced nursing for nearly 40 years when she retired at age 62. Irma was a wonderful mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister and friend. She loved all people and the Lord Jesus. She loved to read her Bible and she read it through each year. We, her family, appreciate all that she was and all that she imparted to both friends and family. She was patient, kind, generous, and loving, always willing to help. We will miss her but rejoice in her eternal salvation and heavenly home of glory.
