Deborah "Debbie" Jean Dowler

Deborah “Debbie” Jean Dowler, 71, of Tallahassee, died unexpectedly on Friday, October 21, 2022. Debbie was born in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania and resided in Tallahassee for over 32 years. She was retired. She had previously worked at the North Florida Fair in Tallahassee as Operations Manager and as Vice President of the Scioto Society, Inc., the producer of the Outdoor Drama “Tecumseh!” in Chillicothe, Ohio. Debbie is predeceased by her father, Wilbur L. Mundell. She is survived by her husband of 32 years, John Dowler; mother, Elva Jean Mundell; daughter, Elise Ray-Mohallil and her husband, Hamdy; son, Robert Shane Ray and his wife, China; granddaughter, Cielle Ray; brother, Doug Mundell and his wife, Laura; brother, Greg Mundell and his wife Margie; sister, Laura Cutler; five nieces, Jenny, Abby, Wendy, Stephanie, and Erin; five nephews, Christopher, Doug, Henry, Josh, and Cody. Debbie enjoyed creating beautiful, dichroic glass jewelry, which she gifted to family and friends. She was quite accomplished at drawing Pokémon, thanks to her granddaughter’s instruction. She loved nature, and you could often find her meditating in her rocking chair, gazing at the forest in her backyard. Debbie was an avid golf fan. She and her daughter never missed a Florida State men’s basketball game. Her spirit of generosity was extended to all those she met. She was a strong, ethical force for right, and moved through life with dignity, purpose, and grace. Debbie knew she wanted to be a mother from an early age, and along with a wife and grandma, these were her most meaningful roles. As her granddaughter said, “the only person I love more than Grandma…is Grandma.” On Saturday, January 28, 2023, there will be a Gathering of Family and Friends of Debbie Dowler at the Dorothy B. Oven Main House located at Dorothy B. Oven Park, 3205 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL. We will gather at 1 pm. Please bring any personal remembrances of Debbie to share with those in attendance.
